Better Together – Our Engagement in Cross Sector Initiatives of the Print & Publishing Sector

The DPP for the Print & Publishing Sector

The EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (EPSR) has set the concept of the Digital Product Passport (DPP) as a legal obligation for product sales in the EU market.

We consider the standardized digital communication across supply chains, which the DPP requires, as a game changer with huge potential for a shift in the efficiency of our product data management.

That’s why we decided to enter a cross industry discussion on a common machine & human readable DPP in 2026 already, knowing that companies will take advantage of participating in this dialogue and collaborative approach straightaway.

Background of the Initiative

In 2025 the Responsible Publishing Net and Initiative Online Print joint forces in the cross sector initiative “Better Together – The EUDR Initiative of the Print & Publishing Sector” heading for a a common machine and human readable standard to ensure interoperability of product-related EUDR data processing. In July 2025 EUDR-X was released and straightaway supported by Intergraf, the European Printers Association, setting the frame for the EUDR-X Launch webinar on 19 Sept 2025. The European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) has been the first law which forced companies across entire supply chains to process product related data.

Our Network & Roadmap

Supporters

The list of supporters increased rapidly since the EUDR-X launch in summer 2025 and ended up in the conclusion of the representatives of the participating companies that we now would like to set up a joint taskforce heading for the collaborative preparation of a Digital Product Passport for the print & publishing sector. Intergraf, the European Printers Association, and Cepi, the Confederation of European Paper Industries, already signalized support. The Federation of European Publishers (FEP) is in the loop.

Knowing a standard format for interoperable data transmissions between publishers, printers and material suppliers will be of great advantage for all companies who focus on efficiency in their supply chain management and who would like to join a collaborative, standardized approach which ensures interoperability and machine readability.
